About Team Our Robotics team is focused on unlocking general-purpose robotics and advancing toward AGI-level intelligence in dynamic, real-world environments. Working across the full model and systems stack, we integrate cutting-edge hardware and software to explore a broad range of robotic form factors. We strive to seamlessly blend high-level AI capabilities with the physical constraints of real-world systems to improve people’s lives. About Role We're a growing hardware company. As we scale, we also need a supply chain that evolves and stays nimble to the changing shape and direction our engineers designs. Today we need someone who understands the iterative process of R&D but is also ready to expand into new product introduction (NPI), and after that, high-volume manufacturing. We're hiring for where we're headed, not just where we are today. This role prioritizes judgment, adaptability, and analytical ability over years of experience alone. A strong candidate will be able to reason from first principles, quickly develop expertise in new commodities, and identify potential commercial or technical issues before they affect the program. While extensive tenure is not required, this is not an entry-level position; candidates should have a solid foundation in strategic sourcing, supplier management, and hardware manufacturing. Over time, you'll help us build out a full supply chain organization: buyers, global supply managers (GSMs), contract manufacturing leads, and specialists across categories like precision machining, gears and mechanical components, EMS/PCBA, electrical components, and contract/JDM manufacturing. Where this role goes - into a specific commodity, into people management, into ops - will depend on where you're strongest and where the business needs you most. This role is based in San Francisco, CA and requires in-person presence 4 days a week and up to 30% travel to vendor sites. In this role you will: Partner directly with engineering during R&D to source components, qualify vendors, and get quotes and samples turned around quickly, without waiting on a fully built-out process. Build supplier relationships from scratch in categories that matter to us today (and be willing to pick up new ones as our needs shift). Evaluate quotes, lead times, and vendor capabilities well enough to make a sound call even when the data is incomplete. Be a cross functional partner that is able to work with legal, finance, and the leadership team to gather approvals and remove roadblocks. Help stand up the processes, tools, and vendor scorecards a growing supply chain org actually needs. You won't be inheriting a mature system, you'll be helping build it. As we move into NPI, work with engineering and quality to get designs ready for production: DFM feedback, first-article inspection, pilot builds. As we scale into high-volume manufacturing, help transition sourcing relationships and processes from prototype-friendly vendors to production-grade suppliers and contract manufacturers. Flag risk early — single-source dependencies, long-lead components, supplier financial or quality issues — and bring solutions, not just problems. You might thrive in this role if you: Strong reasoning ability and intellectual curiosity. You should be comfortable digging into a new commodity or technology you don't know well and getting up to speed fast. Solid grounding in supply chain fundamentals - purchasing, negotiation, supplier management, basic understanding of manufacturing processes, even if your total years of experience are modest. Comfort with ambiguity. Early-stage supply chain work means incomplete data, shifting priorities, and building the plane while flying it. Direct, clear communication with engineers, with suppliers, and with leadership. Some exposure to the hardware supply chain is required; deep specialization is not. Any of the following is a plus, not a prerequisite: precision machining, gears/mechanical components, EMS (electronics manufacturing services), PCBA, electrical/electronic components, contract manufacturing or JDM relationships. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience working with technical hardware, components, manufacturing processes, and technical supplier decisions. What success looks like: Within the first 6 months, you will have: Engineering and manufacturing see you as a highly responsive, agile partner who moves at their pace, turning evolving technical and production needs into viable supplier options, quotes, samples, and clear recommendations without becoming a bottleneck. You’ve built a strong understanding of our most important commodities, suppliers, cost drivers, lead times, and manufacturing constraints. Our highest-priority supply risks (long-lead parts, single-source dependencies, quality concerns, and weak supplier capacity) are visible, actively managed, and backed by practical mitigation plans. You’ve established strong relationships with existing suppliers and added credible alternatives where we need more capability, leverage, or resilience. The basic operating system for supply chain is taking shape: clear sourcing and purchasing workflows, reliable supplier and part data, and lightweight tools for tracking cost, delivery, quality, and risk. You’re helping prepare upcoming designs for NPI by bringing supplier, manufacturability, cost, and lead-time considerations into engineering decisions early. Most importantly, you’re operating with independence: making sound calls with incomplete information, escalating the decisions that genuinely need leadership input, and consistently bringing solutions rather than just identifying problems. Who We Are Notion is the collaborative AI workspace where teams and agents think together . We're building one place where your knowledge, projects, meetings, and AI tools live side by side, so work is faster, clearer, and less fragmented. Millions of individuals, small teams, and large companies run their work on Notion. Notinos (our employees) are customer zero in bringing this future of work to life. We care about craft, building things that last, and the belief that great work is still fundamentally human. Our goal isn’t to ship the next feature. Each and every team of Notinos is working to set the standard for how humans work together in the AI era. From building a business’s system of record to making and managing AI agents to automating away the busy work, we care deeply about giving our customers more time for their life’s work. About the Role: The Product Infrastructure team works on creating abstractions and data models that solve enduring problems across the stack. We solve problems that span multiple product surfaces and typically stretch across both front-end and backend and unblock new product avenues that were previously challenging to create. This role can be based in either San Francisco or New York City. We work from our offices on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays (our Anchor Days) because we do our best thinking and building together in person. We’re looking for someone who’s excited to work alongside the team during those days. What You'll Achieve: Shape and build the core frameworks that enable reading and writing data in Notion, integrating feedback from internal customers along the way, using whatever tools are required for the job, such as AWS, Postgres, NodeJS, TypeScript, React on the frontend. Design new systems and abstractions that improve developer productivity, reliability, and performance by handling entire classes of problems up-front for product engineers. Solve hard technical challenges such as designing abstractions for efficient traversal of the user content graph, building a system to sync user content for offline use, or scaling our permission model to serve large customers with complex content. Skills You'll Need to Bring: Thoughtful problem-solving: For you, problem-solving starts with a clear and accurate understanding of the context. You can decompose tricky problems and work towards a clean solution. Pragmatic and business-oriented: You care about business impact and prioritize projects accordingly. You're not just going after cool stuff—you understand the balance between craft, speed, and the bottom line. Strive for simplicity: You think critically about the implications of what you're building, and aim for the most simple and well-crafted design. You understand the consequence of complexity, and are motivated to eliminate them. Not ideological about technology: To you, technologies and programming languages are about tradeoffs. You may be opinionated, but you're not ideological and can learn new technologies as you go. Empathetic communication: You communicate nuanced ideas clearly, whether you're explaining technical decisions in writing or brainstorming in real time. In disagreements, you engage thoughtfully with other perspectives and compromise when needed. Team player: For you, work isn't a solo endeavor. You enjoy collaborating cross-functionally to accomplish shared goals, and you care about learning, growing, and helping others to do the same. Nice to Haves: You have leveraged the features of typed languages (e.g. TypeScript, Flow) to drive code migrations, or have implemented your own data modeling paradigms (e.g. writing your own ORM, sync engine, or query language). You have seen how fundamental abstractions scale within a large codebase, and are curious about how different organizations solve similar problems (e.g. TAO by Meta, Zanzibar by Google). You've heard of computing pioneers like Ada Lovelace, Douglas Engelbart, Alan Kay, and others—and understand why we're big fans of their work. You have interests outside of technology, such as in art, history, or social sciences. Notion is committed to providing highly competitive cash compensation, equity, and benefits. The compensation offered for this role will be based on multiple factors such as location, the role’s scope and complexity, and the candidate’s experience and expertise, and may vary from the range provided below. For roles based in San Francisco or New York City, the estimated base salary range for this role is $150,000 - $200,000 per year. By clicking “Submit Application”, I understand and agree that Notion and its affiliates and subsidiaries will collect and process my information in accordance with Notion’s Global Recruiting Privacy Policy and NYLL 144 . #LI-Onsite A Note on AI You don’t need deep AI expertise for every role, but we do expect every Notino to be intellectually curious, drawn to tinkering and discovery, and excited to use AI as a real collaborator in their work. For some roles, AI fluency is a core requirement — when that’s the case, we'll say so explicitly in the qualifications. People who thrive here don’t treat AI as a novelty. They use it to think better, and make their work easier for others to build on. Equal Opportunity & Accommodations We hire talented people from a wide range of backgrounds. About the Team OpenAI’s Industrial Compute organization is building the infrastructure required to support the next generation of frontier AI systems. Through a combination of strategic partnerships and self-built data center campuses, we are scaling the power, cooling, electrical, mechanical, and controls infrastructure needed to deliver compute at unprecedented scale. The Commissioning organization is responsible for ensuring this infrastructure is safely tested, validated, integrated, and transitioned into reliable operations. For our self-build campuses, the team operates through a hybrid delivery model: OpenAI provides commissioning leadership, discipline ownership, governance, and project integration, while commissioning partners provide field and test engineering capacity to support inspections, startup, testing, and turnover. About the Role We are seeking a Commissioning Project Lead to own the commissioning strategy and execution for a large-scale, self-build data center project. You will lead the overall commissioning program from early construction planning through startup, functional testing, integrated systems testing, and final turnover. You will establish the commissioning execution plan, integrate commissioning activities into the master project schedule, coordinate multidisciplinary readiness, and lead the vendor commissioning partners providing field and test engineering capacity. This role serves as the primary commissioning interface to project leadership, construction management, contractors, equipment vendors, operations, and commissioning partners. You will be responsible for creating clarity across organizations, identifying readiness and schedule risks early, and ensuring the facility progresses through testing and turnover against clearly defined acceptance criteria. The role will initially support planning and coordination in a hybrid capacity and transition to full-time onsite presence as construction, inspections, startup, testing, and turnover become active. Key Responsibilities Own the project commissioning strategy and execution plan, including scope, governance, acceptance criteria, responsibilities, sequencing, and escalation paths. Lead the hybrid OpenAI and commissioning-partner delivery model, establishing clear RACI ownership, staffing requirements, performance expectations, and issue-management processes. Integrate commissioning into the master project schedule, including construction readiness, energization, equipment startup, functional testing, integrated systems testing, and turnover milestones. Lead commissioning coordination across construction management, contractors, design teams, equipment vendors, operations stakeholders, and field/test engineering teams. Drive multidisciplinary commissioning readiness across electrical, mechanical, controls, and supporting infrastructure, identifying dependencies and resolving blockers before they affect testing. Own visibility into commissioning risks, including schedule constraints, readiness gaps, design and submittal issues, safety constraints, resource bottlenecks, deficiencies, and documentation quality. Coordinate QA/QC inspections and test execution with discipline commissioning leads, contractors, equipment vendors, and commissioning partners. Review commissioning plans, test procedures, readiness checklists, deficiency logs, test reports, turnover packages, and other commissioning deliverables against established acceptance criteria. Provide clear project and executive reporting on commissioning readiness, staffing, test progress, open risks, issue aging, and turnover status. Drive final system acceptance, turnover readiness, closeout, and lessons learned to support a reliable transition from construction into operations. Qualifications 10+ years of experience in commissioning, construction, engineering, technical program management, or project delivery for mission-critical facilities or similarly complex technical infrastructure. Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary commissioning programs through construction readiness, startup, functional performance testing, integrated systems testing, and turnover. Strong working knowledge of electrical and mechanical commissioning workflows, with the ability to coordinate dependencies across power, cooling, controls, and supporting systems. Experience integrating commissioning activities into construction schedules, lookaheads, energization plans, equipment startup sequences, and turnover milestones. Strong owner, contractor, equipment vendor, and commissioning-agent management skills, including the ability to drive accountability across organizations without direct authority. Experience managing commissioning documentation, test procedures, deficiency resolution, issue tracking, acceptance criteria, and quality governance. Ability to identify commissioning and operational-readiness risks early and translate technical issues into actionable schedule and project decisions. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience communicating technical readiness, risk, and recovery plans to senior project leadership. About the Team OpenAI’s Industrial Compute organization is building the infrastructure required to support the next generation of frontier AI systems. Through a combination of strategic partnerships and self-built data center campuses, we are scaling the physical infrastructure needed to deliver compute at unprecedented scale. The Commissioning organization is responsible for ensuring this infrastructure is safely tested, validated, integrated, and transitioned into reliable operations. As the portfolio grows, the team is building common standards, processes, tools, and reporting systems that allow commissioning programs to operate consistently across projects while giving teams and leadership clear visibility into readiness, risk, and execution. About the Role We are seeking a Commissioning Program Manager to build and scale the operating systems behind OpenAI’s infrastructure commissioning programs. You will own the development and continuous improvement of commissioning standards, processes, tools, dashboards, and KPIs across the infrastructure portfolio. You will work closely with commissioning and construction teams to translate field execution needs into practical playbooks, workflows, templates, metrics, and reporting mechanisms that teams can use from construction readiness through testing and turnover. This role sits at the intersection of infrastructure delivery, program management, process design, and data. The ideal candidate understands how complex construction projects operate and can turn fragmented workflows and project data into repeatable systems that improve execution without creating unnecessary administrative burden. Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain commissioning program standards, playbooks, process maps, templates, checklists, stage gates, and acceptance criteria across infrastructure projects. Establish consistent workflows for commissioning planning, construction readiness, QA/QC, issue management, document control, testing evidence, turnover, and lessons learned. Define and maintain commissioning KPIs, dashboards, and scorecards that provide visibility into readiness, inspection completion, deficiencies, test progress, data quality, and turnover health. Own requirements and operating workflows across commissioning trackers, construction management platforms, QA/QC systems, spreadsheets, and business intelligence tools. Partner closely with commissioning and construction leads to translate field execution needs into practical processes and tools that can scale across projects. Monitor adoption, data quality, and effectiveness of commissioning standards and tools; identify gaps and drive improvements as project and portfolio needs evolve. Establish reporting cadences and develop executive-ready reporting that clearly communicates commissioning health, trends, blockers, risks, and decisions required. Pilot new standards, processes, metrics, and tools on active projects, incorporate field feedback, and scale successful approaches across the infrastructure portfolio. Partner with data, analytics, and tooling teams to improve automation, source-of-truth alignment, data integrity, and reporting reliability. Drive continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned from project execution and incorporating them into future commissioning standards, workflows, dashboards, and KPIs. Qualifications 5+ years of experience in program management, project management, construction management, engineering, commissioning, facilities, project controls, or infrastructure delivery. Hands-on experience working in construction or complex infrastructure environments, with an understanding of how field work is planned, coordinated, tracked, documented, tested, and turned over. Experience developing or improving program standards, SOPs, process maps, playbooks, templates, trackers, stage gates, or operating rhythms used by project teams. Strong comfort with data, metrics, dashboards, and reporting, including the ability to define meaningful KPIs, identify data-quality issues, and translate project information into actionable insights. Working knowledge of commissioning, QA/QC, inspections, deficiency management, testing documentation, readiness reviews, or turnover processes; direct commissioning experience is strongly preferred. Experience with construction, commissioning, project management, or analytics platforms such as Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, CxAlloy, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, Excel or Google Sheets, Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools. Strong systems thinking with the ability to simplify complex workflows, establish clear ownership, and design processes that work for both field teams and program leadership. Demonstrated ability to drive process and tooling adoption across multidisciplinary stakeholders without relying on formal authority. Experience building dashboards, scorecards, KPI frameworks, or reporting systems for construction, commissioning, project controls, infrastructure operations, or PMO organizations is preferred. Experience with mission-critical infrastructure, data centers, manufacturing, energy, healthcare, laboratories, or other complex technical facilities is preferred; PMP, Lean/Six Sigma, CxA, QCxP, or related credentials are a plus. Location This role is based in the San Francisco office or at an OpenAI self-build data center campus and is not a remote position. Periodic travel to project sites is expected to develop a direct understanding of construction and commissioning workflows, support project teams, and ensure program standards and tools reflect field execution needs. Travel is expected to be less than 20%. About OpenAI OpenAI is an AI research and deployment company dedicated to ensuring that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity.
