About the Team Security is at the foundation of OpenAI's mission to ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity. The Identity Infrastructure Engineering team sits at the core of this effort, designing and building the identity and access management solutions that protect model weights, customer data, and critical systems across multiple cloud environments. The team partners across OpenAI, including Applied Engineering, Research, IT, Security, Infrastructure, and Engineering, to provide secure and scalable platforms for identity, access management, permissioning, orchestration, and safe AI research. About the Role We’re looking for an engineering leader to lead Identity Infrastructure Engineering, the team building the systems that govern and scale access across OpenAI’s research, engineering, and internal platforms. This role sits at the center of cloud infrastructure, identity, software engineering, and security-critical operations. You’ll lead engineers building control planes, policy systems, workload and agent authorization patterns, infrastructure-as-code, and operational foundations that help OpenAI move quickly while keeping access reliable, auditable, least-privileged, and safe under failure. The ideal candidate has led teams responsible for large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure. They can go deep into code and architecture when needed, while giving engineers and technical leads the clarity and ownership to do their best work. They set technical direction, grow strong teams, make durable architecture decisions, and turn ambiguous 0-to-1 problems into platforms OpenAI can trust and build on for years. In this role, you will: Build and lead a high-performing Identity Infrastructure team, going deep enough technically to set direction while empowering the team to own delivery. Define the strategy for identity platform as the policy plane for access across people, agents, workloads, services, clouds, and internal systems. Scale Access Manager for evolving human and agent lifecycles, making routine access automatic and sensitive access contextual, time-bound, and accountable. Build the access graph and resource catalog that make access decisions explainable, risk-aware, and grounded in ownership, sensitivity, environment, and usage. Replace broad standing privilege with risk-tiered access, so routine work stays fast, privileged access is narrow and observable, and break-glass is exceptional. Establish first-class authorization for agents and workloads, with delegated, action-scoped permissions, time-bound access, full attribution, and no credential sharing. Partner across Security, Infrastructure, Applied, Research, IT, and product to turn identity standards into systems teams trust and adopt. Operate identity infrastructure as a mission-critical platform, with clear reliability goals, safe rollouts, strong observability, healthy on-call, and rigorous incident learning. Measure success by safer, faster, and more accountable access: reduced unnecessary privilege, stronger governance, broader coverage, clearer auditability, and less friction for legitimate work. You might thrive in this role if you: Have 10+ years building and developing engineering teams that own large scale platforms. Experience owning security critical production systems where reliability, least privilege, auditability, and operational rigor are essential. Deep judgment across cloud infrastructure, IAM, authentication, authorization, workload identity, privileged access, and policy enforcement. Hands-on technical depth to go into code and architecture, pressure-test designs, and guide tradeoffs across correctness, performance, scale, and operability. Track record turning complex infrastructure problems into adopted platforms across Engineering, Security, Research, and internal teams. High bar for engineering quality, operational discipline, and long-term ownership. About Supabase Supabase is the Postgres development platform, built by developers for developers. We provide a complete backend solution including Database, Auth, Storage, Edge Functions, Realtime, and Vector Search. All services are deeply integrated and designed for growth. About the Role We're looking for Engineering Managers to lead engineering teams across Supabase. Teams range from developer-facing surfaces, core backend services, Platform, EngOps, and Databases. This is a single pipeline for engineering management. As we get to know your background, we'll match you to the team where your experience and interests overlap most strongly. The Engineering Manager is a people, delivery, and technical role. Although we don’t expect managers to contribute to code directly, we do expect you to participate in design discussions and to be involved in setting the bar for engineering quality and best practices. This is a new role at Supabase. We've historically optimised for technical excellence on every axis, including leadership. As our engineering org grows, people leadership has become just as critical, and the Engineering Manager role exists to reflect that. You'll be shaping what this role looks like from day one. What You'll Be Responsible For Team & People Build a healthy, high-trust team culture in a remote-first, globally distributed environment. Run 1:1s, performance management, career development, and onboarding for your direct reports. Handle people admin (leave, time off, etc.) for your team. Hiring Own the hiring plan for your team and act as Hiring Manager. First round of interviewer for all roles on the team. Partner with Talent Acquisition to source, interview, and close strong candidates. Contribute to headcount planning, org design, and the evolution of engineering leadership at Supabase. Delivery & Roadmap Own the team's roadmap and project management (Linear), driving accountability and clear milestones. Manage workflow intake and Slack triage. These are the team’s primary inboxes for cross-team requests. You decide what gets routed where, prioritized, or pushed back on. Own the team's weekly updates and keep stakeholders aligned without creating overhead. Organize effort against support tickets and maintain the team's SLO. Surface risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs early and clearly to leadership. Incident Commander Train as an Incident Commander. Drive coordination, resolution, and post-incident follow-up. Lead blameless post-incident reviews You Might Be a Good Fit If You Have 5+ years of engineering background, with enough depth to be credible with engineers building complex systems. Have 3+ years managing remote engineering teams. Have managed engineering teams at a cloud, SaaS, or developer tools company. Experience with developer tools or databases is a strong preference, but we'll consider any sufficiently technical background where you can demonstrate the ability to ramp on a new domain. Have managed remote, globally distributed teams that work asynchronously across disparate time zones. Are technical enough to be credible with strong engineers, but genuinely passionate about people management. This is the work you want to do, not a track you're settling for. Build psychological safety and a feedback culture: you give feedback often and in the moment, ask for it back, and create space for the team to do the same. Operate as a multiplier. Focused on helping individuals achieve more than they could alone, not on being the best technical voice in the room. Coach rather than direct. Remove blockers, connect people to context and resources, and trust your engineers to own how the work gets done. Have a real track record of performance management and can speak to specific examples of difficult conversations and how you navigated them. Are comfortable with ambiguity and capable of building structure where there isn't much. Communicate clearly and write well. You're default async, default written, set context proactively, and surface risks early. Are collaborative, low-ego, and adaptable. You thrive working with high-autonomy, senior ICs who have strong technical opinions and don't need to be the smartest person in the room. What We Offer Fully Remote We hire globally. We believe you can do your best work from anywhere. There are no Supabase offices, but we provide a WeWork membership or co-working allowance you can use anywhere in the world. ESOP Every team member receives ESOP (equity ownership) in the company. We want everyone to share in the upside of what we’re building together. Tech Allowance Use this budget to set up your ideal work environment—laptop, monitor, headphones, or whatever helps you do your best work. Health Benefits Supabase covers 100% of health insurance for employees and 80% for dependents, wherever you are. Your wellbeing and your family’s health are important to us. Annual Off-Sites Once a year, the entire company gathers in a new city for a week of connection, collaboration, and fun. It’s a highlight of our year. Flexible Work We operate asynchronously and trust you to manage your own time. You know what needs to be done and when. Professional Development Every team member receives an annual education allowance to spend on learning—courses, books, conferences, or anything that supports your growth. About the Team Supabase was born-remote and open-source-first. We believe our globally distributed team is our secret weapon in building tools developers love. ~400 team members 60+ countries 20+ languages spoken Over $1B raised (including our $500M Series F) 540,000+ community members We move fast, build in public, and use what we ship. If it’s in your project, we probably use it in ours too. We believe deeply in the open-source ecosystem and strive to support—not replace—existing tools and communities.

Achieving this requires bringing the world’s most exceptional talent under one roof to push the boundaries of what’s possible. Our Research Recruiting team plays a critical role in this effort. We are an embedded part of the research organization, working side by side with our research staff to deeply understand evolving priorities, build trust, and strategically shape the future of OpenAI’s talent. About the Role You will own and execute long-term talent strategies to identify, engage, and recruit many of the world’s leading and emerging AI researchers, research engineers, and technical scientists working at the frontier of machine learning. This is not a traditional execution-focused recruiting role. You will operate as a strategic partner to OpenAI’s research staff, helping define hiring priorities, shape search strategy, influence candidate evaluation, and guide hiring decisions that directly impact the direction and quality of our frontier-model research and fulfillment of our mission. In this role, you will: Partner directly with research and technical staff to define hiring priorities, shape search strategies, and anticipate future talent needs as technical roadmaps evolve. Proactively identify and cultivate exceptional AI/ML research talent across industry, academia, and emerging labs, often before formal hiring needs exist. Use market insights and candidate signals to influence hiring decisions, leveling, and compensation strategy for highly specialized research roles. Serve as a trusted advisor throughout candidate evaluation and closing — helping leaders calibrate for research excellence, long-term potential, and organizational fit. Collaborate closely with your sourcing partner to execute complex, high-impact searches in ambiguous or rapidly evolving technical domains. You might thrive in this role if you: Significant experience recruiting within highly technical or specialized environments. Deep interest in AI research and a desire to engage directly with global research communities. Experience recruiting within highly technical or specialized environments such as ML/AI, distributed systems, infrastructure, scientific computing, or quantitative research. Track record of leading complex, ambiguous technical searches from early talent mapping through close. Experience navigating high-stakes negotiations with senior technical or research candidates. Comfort operating in fast-moving environments where hiring priorities and role definitions may evolve over time.
