About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the role Anthropic is building AI systems that will shape the trajectory of one of the most consequential technologies in human history. That work requires physical infrastructure at significant scale, and building that infrastructure the right way means being a real, long-term partner to the communities where we operate. We are looking for a Community Engagement Manager in Canada to join our Public Policy team and serve as Anthropic's on-the-ground presence in the communities where our data centres are sited, built, and operated. This is not a communications role or a government affairs role, though you will do elements of both. It is a relationship role: your job is to make Anthropic a trusted, visible, and valued neighbour, from the earliest stages of site selection through construction and long-term operations. You will be the connective tissue between Anthropic's Policy and Infrastructure teams and the local officials, community organizations, economic development partners, and residents who have a stake in what we build. You will surface concerns before they escalate, translate our technical and operational plans into clear local benefits, and build the coalitions that allow us to move quickly and responsibly. Because Anthropic's infrastructure footprint is still early in its growth, you will also help write the playbook: the processes you build in your first markets are the ones we will use as we expand. You will travel regularly within your region, up to 50% of the time, and occasionally to other Anthropic data centre markets. Key responsibilities Build and maintain trusted, sustained relationships with municipal governments, both elected and unelected, provincial ministers and agencies, economic development organizations, community groups, civic leaders, educational institutions, and workforce partners in the data centre markets you cover Develop and execute a community engagement strategy for each of your markets, spanning site selection, pre-development, construction, and ongoing operations Build external coalitions, host education and listening sessions, and design local solutions that deliver real benefits to the communities where we operate Represent Anthropic in public forums, town halls, planning hearings, community events, and local media Monitor community sentiment and local political dynamics, and advise internal teams on risks, opportunities, and the right pace and posture for engagement Partner with the Real Estate and Infrastructure team to bring community input into how projects are planned, communicated, and delivered, not just how they are announced Work with the Communications team to develop proactive, locally relevant messaging Coordinate charitable giving, community investment, and economic development commitments in your markets, including managing nonprofit partner relationships Partner with the Energy and Sustainability team to explain our approach to environmental stewardship and respond to questions about power, water, and land use Build a community engagement playbook and repeatable processes that scale as Anthropic's infrastructure footprint grows Minimum qualifications Experience in community affairs, public affairs, economic development, government relations, municipal or provincial government, or a closely related field Direct experience working for or engaging with municipal governments, both elected councils and administration, and provincial government on behalf of large infrastructure, construction, energy, or technology projects, with a working understanding of how local politics and community dynamics actually play out A skilled relationship and coalition builder who earns trust with a diverse group of stakeholders, and who maintains relationships through difficult conversations The ability to represent a company credibly in public settings — town halls, hearings, press interviews Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to turn a complex operational plan into plain language that a local official or reporter can understand and respond to The ability to work independently, get up to speed quickly on complex policy issues, and manage multiple concurrent engagements across different markets without losing track of any of them Based in Alberta, Canada or willing to relocate there, and prepared to travel regularly across the region Preferred qualifications 7+ years of experience in community engagement specifically on data centre, utility, energy, or large-scale industrial infrastructure projects, or in local government Familiarity with land use, zoning, and development permitting processes at the municipal and provincial level Experience managing corporate social responsibility programs Established relationships with economic development, workforce, or civic organizations in the markets this role covers Experience working with real estate, legal, communications, and policy teams at the same time A genuine interest in the communities where you work, not just the projects you are managing Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices. Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this. We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team. Your safety matters to us. About the role Anthropic is scaling compute internationally — growing our footprint in new countries. We're hiring a Country Lead to be the single, accountable owner of our compute strategy in Canada: the person who leads a team of cross-functional experts driving site selection, leasing, energy, financing, government relations and policy, community engagement, construction, and operations. This person will be ultimately responsible for bringing gigawatts of compute online in Canada. You won't build this alone. The specialist functions — leasing, energy, policy, construction, finance — are hired and managed centrally by functional leads based in San Francisco. Your job is to provide cross-functional leadership over that team in-country: coordinating and driving accountability across workstreams, while representing Anthropic externally with government and industry counterparts in Canada. This is a high-ambiguity, high-trust role for someone who can bring structure to a fast-growing, cross-functional effort without needing formal authority to do it. Responsibilities Own the end-to-end strategy and coordination for Anthropic's compute build-out in Canada, from initial site selection through construction and operations. While each component will be run by subject matter experts, this role will act as the overall leader and coordinator of that team. Serve as the primary point of accountability for cross-functional workstreams; leasing, financing, energy, government relations/policy, community engagement, construction, and operations. Provide working leadership to the in-country cross-functional team, driving alignment and unblocking issues. Represent Anthropic with government officials, utilities, energy providers, and other external stakeholders in Canada. Build and maintain relationships within the Canadian government and the energy industry to support site, power, and policy outcomes. Track progress and surface risks across parallel workstreams as the country's compute footprint scales from initial sites to multiple gigawatts. Translate between Anthropic's global compute priorities and the specific regulatory, political, and market conditions in Canada. Requirements Canadian national with established links into government and the energy industry strongly preferred. Structured thinker with a track record of learning new domains quickly and going deep fast. Excellent communicator, comfortable representing Anthropic to senior government, utility, and industry stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional teams without direct line authority. Hyper-organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to own multiple concurrent workstreams at once. Comfortable with ambiguity; a problem solver who drives structure into undefined situations. Background in energy, infrastructure, or a related sector. Nice to have Prior experience with large-scale infrastructure or datacenter development. Existing relationships with Canadian federal or provincial government bodies relevant to energy, land use, or industrial development. Experience managing or overseeing capital-intensive projects. Familiarity with the compute, cloud, or datacenter industry. Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. About the role Anthropic is building AI compute at a scale and pace that outruns what off-the-shelf data center equipment was designed for. Much of the power and cooling equipment behind our next campuses — battery energy storage systems (BESS), grid-forming and grid-following inverters, solid-state transformers (SST), E-STATCOM and other power-quality devices, medium-voltage switchgear, UPS, and liquid-cooling systems — is either new to the market, new to the supplier, or being built at a volume the supplier has never shipped before. The NPI Engineer owns the path from "the supplier has a design" to "the equipment is qualified, manufacturable at rate, and running reliably on site." You sit between our electrical and mechanical design teams, our supply chain and quality teams, and the supplier's engineering and factory organizations, and you make sure every new product or major variant clears the gates — EVT, DVT, PVT, FAT, SAT — before it is trusted with production load. This is a hands-on role: you will spend real time on supplier factory floors, in test labs, and at site commissioning. What you'll do Own the NPI program for each new power or cooling product (BESS, inverters, SST, E-STATCOM, MV switchgear, UPS, CDUs, chillers) from concept selection through ramp, including the gate schedule, exit criteria, and risk register. Drive early supplier design engagement: translate our site requirements (fault current, grid interconnection, harmonic and ride-through requirements, thermal envelopes, footprint, serviceability) into product requirements and specifications the supplier can build to, and negotiate trade-offs with their engineering teams. Lead DFM/DFT/DFx reviews with suppliers so designs are manufacturable at the rate we need, testable in the factory, and serviceable in the field. Plan and run prototype and pilot builds: define EVT/DVT/PVT scope and sample counts, witness builds, own test plans (type testing, HALT/HASS, thermal, EMC, protection coordination, functional and integration tests), and drive root cause and corrective action on every failure. Qualify the product for deployment: define and execute first-article inspection, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and integrated system testing with the rest of the electrical and cooling chain, and sign off on production readiness. Hand off to steady state: transfer qualified products, control plans, test procedures, and known-issue lists to the Manufacturing Quality and Supply Chain Delivery teams, and support them through the first production ramps. Build the reliability picture: run FMEA/DFMEA with suppliers, define reliability targets and burn-in requirements, and feed field failure data back into the next revision. Coordinate cross-functionally with design engineering, construction, commissioning, utilities/interconnection, safety, and sourcing so NPI schedules are integrated with campus delivery schedules. Keep suppliers honest: track readiness and risk with clear metrics, escalate early, and hold technical reviews that resolve issues rather than admire them. You may be a good fit if you have 8+ years of engineering experience in power electronics, electrical equipment, or industrial energy systems, with at least 4 years in an NPI, product development, or product engineering role that owned a product from prototype through production ramp. Direct, hands-on experience with at least two of: BESS, utility- or data-center-scale inverters, medium-voltage transformers or switchgear, UPS, STATCOM/power-quality equipment, or liquid cooling systems (CDUs, chillers, hydronics). Working knowledge of the relevant standards and how they get applied in qualification: UL 9540/9540A, UL 1741 and IEEE 1547, IEEE 2800, IEC 62477 / IEC 62909, IEEE C37 and C57 series, NFPA 70/855, UL 1778, and comparable IEC equivalents. Experience defining and executing structured qualification programs (EVT/DVT/PVT, FAT/SAT, type testing, reliability testing) and closing failures with disciplined root cause analysis and CAPA. Familiarity with supplier factory environments — production lines, test bays, quality systems — and the ability to assess a supplier's real readiness to ship at rate. Fluency in design-for-manufacturing and design-for-test principles and the supplier ECO/change-control process. Strong systems thinking: you can reason about how an inverter, a battery, a transformer, and a cooling loop behave together at a site, not just in isolation. Clear written and verbal communication, and comfort driving decisions across engineering, supply chain, and executive audiences. A bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or power engineering, or equivalent experience. Willingness to travel 30–40% to supplier factories and data center sites, including internationally. Strong candidates may also have Experience with solid-state transformers, grid-forming inverters, E-STATCOM, or other emerging power-conversion equipment being introduced to data center or utility applications for the first time. NPI or product engineering experience at a hyperscaler, a large utility-scale developer, or a Tier-1 power equipment OEM. Background in grid interconnection studies, protection coordination, or power-system modeling (PSCAD, ETAP, PSS/E, or similar). Liquid cooling product introduction experience — CDU, rear-door heat exchanger, direct-to-chip, or immersion systems. Reliability engineering credentials (CRE, Six Sigma) or experience running HALT/HASS programs. Firmware and controls validation experience for power conversion equipment (inverter control loops, BMS, EMS, PLC/SCADA integration). Experience standing up or scaling new supplier manufacturing lines, including contract manufacturing and international sites. The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. Annual Salary: $320,000 — $405,000 USD Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. In this role, you will: Own advertiser cases from initial intake through resolution, including complex or sensitive Ads Trust & Safety escalations; investigate whether issues stem from policy, review operations, product behavior, tooling, or another dependency, then communicate clear next steps and follow through. Develop deep expertise across advertiser workflows, ads policies, enforcement processes, review systems, and support tooling. Build a detailed view of advertiser friction by combining ticket themes, escalation patterns, quality findings, and service metrics to prioritize improvements and identify emerging experience or safety gaps. Turn frontline learnings into clearer help content, stronger playbooks, better routing and escalation criteria, improved knowledge management and quality standards, and self-service opportunities. Partner with Product, Policy, Engineering, Legal, Data Science, and Go To Market teams to resolve recurring issues, surface advertiser feedback, and scale durable solutions. Drive operational excellence through AI-assisted workflows and automation that reduce manual effort, improve team efficiency, and elevate support quality. Support readiness for new ads formats, features, and markets by anticipating advertiser questions and identifying support risks early. Providing occasional holiday and weekend support on call coverage, as needed, to support business and customer needs. You might thrive in this role if you: Have 6+ years of experience in customer support, user operations, ads operations, Trust & Safety, risk operations, escalations, or a related field, including ownership of high-impact customer or advertiser cases. Bring strong investigative judgment and can translate ambiguous signals into policy support, operational gaps, product defects, and expected behavior Can synthesize data trends, feedback, QA findings, and service metrics into clear priorities and system improvement while maintaining strong judgment and safeguards Have improved support processes, knowledge bases, escalation workflows, routing systems, or quality programs. Are comfortable using AI and emerging technologies (i.e. Codex, ChatGPT, OpenAI API, etc.) and/or code (e.g. Python) to automate repetitive tasks and integrating tools Build trust with cross-functional partners, communicate clearly and empathetically with advertisers and internal teams, and drive action without formal authority. Thrive in ambiguity, learn quickly, manage competing priorities, and bring a humble, service-oriented mindset. Bonus: Understand advertiser workflows, ads ecosystems, policy enforcement, account reviews, or ads safety operations. Partner closely with Data Science and Data Engineering teams to define goals, metric logic, data requirements, source-of-truth decisions, and QA data strategy. Design and maintain practical data-quality and measurement mechanisms, including sampling, validation, discrepancy investigation, quality dashboards, and feedback loops. Build and improve automations, AI-assisted workflows, and decision-support tools that reduce manual work and help Ads Trust & Safety and Ads Support scale. Drive operational readiness for new Ads and monetization launches, features, and markets by sizing impact, identifying risks early, and defining monitoring plans. Act as a senior cross-functional partner and subject-matter expert, communicating data-driven tradeoffs, priorities, and recommendations with strong judgment and credibility. You might thrive in this role if you: 8+ years of experience in Trust & Safety, Business Integrity, technical operations, data analytics, or a closely related domain. Strong SQL skills and comfort working with unfamiliar, complex datasets, reconciling source-of-truth questions, and resolving data-quality issues. Experience building and owning dashboards, recurring reporting, monitoring, or operational measurement systems from scoping through adoption and maintenance. Experience using data for budget, capacity, or workforce planning, including translating demand, quality, and service-level signals into practical operating plans. Proven ability to independently own ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives and turn analysis into decisions, workflows, or scalable systems. In-depth experience leveraging AI models or agent-based tooling in operational workflows, or other lightweight technical development where useful. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex analyses, data limitations, risk tradeoffs, and recommendations to diverse audiences. Strong judgment around quality, safeguards, responsible deployment, and the appropriate use of data in high-stakes operational decisions. Bonus: Familiarity with ads and advertiser ecosystems and the operational signals that shape review, enforcement, and support decisions. About the Role We’re looking for a senior operator to help build and scale Monetization Trust & Safety Operations at OpenAI. In this role, you’ll own critical Ads T&S workstreams from problem framing through scaled operation, partnering closely with Product, Policy, Engineering, Legal, and Go To Market to turn ambiguous priorities into durable operating models. This role sits at the intersection of strategy and execution: you’ll define scope, align owners, manage milestones and risks, resolve dependencies, and build the workflows, decision structures, and operating mechanisms that allow Ads Trust & Safety to scale. You’ll move between standing up new programs, stabilizing existing workflows, and handing off durable ownership as priorities evolve. As OpenAI introduces new revenue-generating formats and partnerships, you’ll bring structure to complex initiatives that balance user safety, advertiser experience, and business growth. You’ll use data and frontline signals to identify bottlenecks, quality gaps, capacity needs, and high-leverage interventions, and communicate clear recommendations and tradeoffs to cross-functional partners and leadership. In this role, you will: Own complex, high-impact Ads Trust & Safety programs from problem framing through launch, stabilization, and scaled operation. Define program scope, owners, milestones, risks, success measures, and execution cadence for strategic operational builds. Translate policy, risk, technical, legal, and operational constraints into workflows, requirements, playbooks, escalation paths, and decision structures. Coordinate across Product, Policy, Engineering, Legal, Go To Market, Support, vendors, and other partners to resolve dependencies and keep critical work moving. Move flexibly across priorities—standing up new programs, improving existing workflows, strengthening handoffs, and transitioning durable ownership to the right teams. Use operational data and frontline signals to identify bottlenecks, quality gaps, capacity needs, ownership failures, and the highest-leverage interventions. Drive high-priority escalations and cross-functional decisions to closure with clear context, accountable owners, next steps, and durable follow-through. Create program mechanisms that make operations run well, including roadmaps, decision logs, status updates, risk registers, operating reviews, and executive communication. Identify where AI tools, automation, lightweight systems, or simpler workflows can improve speed, consistency, and scale while preserving appropriate human judgment. You might thrive in this role if you: 8+ years of experience in program management, strategy and operations, product operations, technical program management, Trust & Safety, Risk Operations, Ads or Monetization Operations, or a related field. Deep familiarity with ads ecosystems, advertiser risk, or high-stakes scaled operations. Proven ability to take complex, ambiguous, cross-functional work from problem framing through launch and scaled operation. Strong organizational and execution skills; able to manage many moving pieces while staying focused on the decisions and risks that matter most. Strong operational judgment and systems thinking—able to design operating models that scale beyond manual review. Experience building trust and driving alignment across Product, Policy, Engineering, Sales, Legal, Support, vendors, and other partners without direct authority. Comfort using data and operational metrics to identify bottlenecks, prioritize work, measure impact, and inform tradeoffs. Technical and analytical fluency to reason about dashboards, data flows, tooling gaps, automation, and failure modes, even if you are not writing production code. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex risk tradeoffs, decisions, and incomplete evidence to operational, technical, policy, and executive audiences. Experience with launch readiness, QA programs, workflow automation, vendor operations, or AI-assisted operations, with strong judgment around safeguards and responsible deployment.
